why did I do this again?

Have you ever said yes to something and realize five minutes later that maybe you should have given some serious thought into saying yes before you actually did so?

If you said yes, don’t be ashamed.

I do this all the time.

It’s the reason I get backlogged with product reviews, the reason I overbook myself into a state of constant wallowing dread and the reason I’ll be running the National 1/2 Marathon in Washington D.C. come March 26th.

For the record, my credit card was officially paid off in full just three days ago. After registration + a visit to Kayak today, it now holds a balance of $410. I can’t even think about the fact I haven’t run since October 8th…or run anything longer than five miles since August.

Why did I do this again?

Because I am thinking about how fun it will be to hang out with Madeline, road trip it to D.C. from Philly, run that sub-1:50 half marathon that eluded me this past year and visit TWO places on the East Coast I’ve never been before.

Yes, let’s focus on that.

Because training starts on Monday.

And because salad eating started today.

2 cups baby spinach
1/2 cup cooked millet
1/2 diced red pepper
1 cup caramelized onions
sprinkle of sunflower seeds
lemon basil pesto vinaigrette

I can say (mostly) goodbye to the copious amounts of booze, heavy meats + decadent treats and three months of no working out I’ve enjoyed as of late.

Because Mama is on a mission: that sub-1:50 half marathon IS mine.

Even if I didn’t give it any serious thought in the first place.

Yes! I am so happy you’ll be running, too. I don’t care if my leg isn’t healed enough by then; it’ll be worth the trip to DC just to see everyone.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) December 30, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Amanda (Eating Up) December 30, 2010 at 8:14 pm

So many bloggers are doing that! It will seem like a party and not a half marathon, I am sure!

Low December 30, 2010 at 8:16 pm

You can DO it! I’m running one March 20th I believe. Woo hoo winter training!

I’m planning on signing up for a half on April 10th–we can be training buddies:)

Maya December 30, 2010 at 8:50 pm

I was actually thinking of registering for the same half mary! I’m debating between that and Fredericksburg. Even if I don’t run the National my school is near DC so I’d love to meet you!

Katie December 30, 2010 at 9:17 pm

That’s how I do things too – full on, no thinking first. Its usually best to just go with your gut. Unless its telling you to break the law.

Jennifer@ knackfornutrition December 30, 2010 at 9:20 pm

I’m doing that race! It’s going to be more of a party than a run…maybe i’ll just fill my water bottle with beer?

Mari December 30, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I moved to DC not too long ago and have heard a lot of great things about this race. Good luck with training!

Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete December 30, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) December 31, 2010 at 8:10 am

Happy New Year, dont be worrying about money, it always comes out of somewhere! focus on the good things! xx

Amy B @ Second City Randomness December 31, 2010 at 9:49 am

ooohhhh… goodluck with the half! I’m crossing my fingers for a sub 1:50, too. It may not be this next one in April, but I’m determined for it to happen in the next year!

megan @ the oatmeal diaries December 31, 2010 at 10:55 am

SO exciting! I know you will rock the sub-1:50!!

Katie December 31, 2010 at 11:01 am

Ooh, you’ll have so much fun once you’re there and finishing under 1:50! The first race I ever signed up for was a marathon and I thought about it for 6 seconds before I forked over the entry fee…it ended up okay, I survived and was glad I did it in the end. :-)

Mary @ Bites and Bliss December 31, 2010 at 1:00 pm

You can do that half marathon in under 1:50!!! That’s quite a goal, but you’ll own it :)

Kailey @ Caffienated Nut December 31, 2010 at 2:47 pm

YAY!!! i love half marathons and your going to kill it because your a beast :D
